Case Study Shows Increase in Time-to-Hire For School System Using Online Assessments

April 01, 2005 – Performance Assessment Network, Inc., ("pan"). World leader in online assessment and talent management released a case study today focused on Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS). Located 25 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., Loudoun County is the fastest growing county in the nation and LCPS is the fastest growing school system in Virginia. A recent addition of the use of assessments in the hiring practices for LCPS has resulted in better evaluation of new teachers and ultimately enables quicker hiring decision.

Gaining nearly 4,000 new students a year, LCPS did not want to jeopardize the proud tradition it has for quality public education and an outstanding record of student achievement. To accomplish this goal they needed to continue to recruit and hire the best teachers in an area where competitive pay and fierce competition from neighboring school districts. What this said was that they needed to streamline their recruiting efforts without making bad decisions on quality.

"We have all these competitors who are drawing from the same pool of talent," said Matthew Britt, superintendent for personnel services for the school system. "We are working to improve our process of hiring so we can be the first to get applicants through the process and quickly offer the position."

Pan was able to offer LCPS a great solution that was user friendly since it involved online assessments, and did not include additional manual work on the recruiters side of the equation since testing scores were automatically populated into the LCPS applicant tracking system - an integration that was easily put in place by pan. Using a Web-based technology has reduced the resources needed to schedule, conduct, record and scan screening interviews. Britt emphatically praised the value that automation and pan have brought to LCPS and urges others to get the buy-in to bring automation into their organization. Today, LCPS is able to screen over 3000 applicants each year - double what they were able to do by hand. Additionally, what used to take 2 to 3 weeks to accomplish in hiring of a new teacher, now can take less than 48 hours.
