Tests & Assessments | Pre-employment Test Selector
When assessments are used to help make hiring decisions, it is critical that they measure the skills and abilities most
relevant to the job in question. For instance, a test of mechanical ability likely would be better suited for assessing
candidates for a maintenance position than for an administrative support position. The Pre-Employment TestSelector is
designed to help Test Administrators identify the assessments that measure the abilities most relevant for a particular
job type.
The Pre-Employment TestSelector is based upon O*NET, a
comprehensive database containing extensive information about the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics
(KSAOs) associated with a very broad range of occupations. Using this information, the competencies considered most
critical in each job family were identified and then linked to the assessments in the pan catalog
that best measure them. For some job families, two sets of tests were identified. General Tests provide broad coverage of
the KSAOs across the job family while Job-Specific Tests cover the KSAOs relevant to a specific set of jobs within the
family.
The Pre-Employment TestSelector can be used to find the assessments most suitable for a particular job class and guide
the development of custom batteries which focus specifically on the various skills and abilities needed for success in a
given position. However, remember that the Pre-Employment TestSelector is simply a tool to help guide the identification
of the tests which may be appropriate for a job class; it is the Test Administrator's ultimate responsibility to ascertain
that an assessment is being used properly and measures job relevant skills and abilities.
